This valley is popularly known as LDUMRA meaning the valley of flowers.
It is situated in the North of Ladakh between Karakoram and Ladakh ranges of Himalayas. The main settlements ara along the Shayok River and the Saichen River. The river belt is sandy and the vegetation includes green Farmarisk and Myricaria. One of the unique features of the landscapes in Nubra is the sand dunes between Diskit and Hunder villages.
An ancient trade route (a branch of the popular Central Asian Silk Route) used to pass through Nubra valley and its Imprints can be seen even today. The double humped Bacterian Camels of the Silk route trade period still wander in the wilderness of the valley .

DISKIT MONASTERY |
Diskit monastery is situated in the Nubra valley.
It was founded in about the year 1420 by Sheshrab Zangpo of stod during the lifetime of the Dharamraja Gagspa.
It is reckoned as one of the branches of Thiksey Monastery . About a hundred monks reside there.
The successive reincarnation of Skyabsje Khnapo Rinpoche acts as the incumbents.
There is a custom
of holding sacred dances durings festival of Gustor which takes place every year on the 28th and 29th days of the 12th Tibetan month.
There are all kinds of thangkas, wall paintings and shrines. In the valley of Nubra , furthermore, there are the monasteries of
Kargya Rangjon, Bensa , Kharnying and others. All these there are the tokens which accord with the information provided in works of history. |

SAMSTANLING MONASTERY |
Samstanling monastery was founded by Lama Tsultim NIma, approximately 136 years ago. Samstanling gonpa is situated on the North facing Deskit
Gonpa. Both these gonpas have historical remains. Samstanlinggonpa has 6 chamber which include a chamber of guardian deities {Gonkhang} , KangyurLakhang { Scriptures room} Double storey high statue of Chamba {Maitrya} and Tsepakmed {Amitayius}. Thikchen Choling and Dhukh and Nyingma chamber. Thikchen choling chamber is the main assemble hall.
There are 100 residents monks taking education in
Buddhist Philosophy school of this monastery.

OTHER PLACES TO VISIT IN NUBRA VALLEY |

HUNDER |
Hunder is located 7km from
Diskit. On the way to Hunder are the famous sand dunes of Nubra. A walk through these sand dunes along a small stream is a new experience. You may come across double
hump camels of the way Camels are mostly domesticated, but many are left uncared and wild, especially males. These camels remind you of the Silk route period.
Hunder is a pretty village amidst willow and poplar trees. There is a monastery, which is over 500 years old

PANAMIK |
Further away from Sumur and Tiger village is
Panamic village, which is known for its natural springs, having medicinal powers. The village comprises 24 families. Panamik was the most important place for halt of caravan .it served as last major village where the caravan landed, before they negotiated Saseranf Karakoram pass towards Central Asia.
Major attraction of Nubra is the Highest motorable Khardongla pass {18,383 ft}, majestic peaks and glaciers, enchanting valley and villages. Deskit and Samstanling Gonpa, Panamik hot spring, double humped camel safari, river rafting, trekking and sun bath at Hunder are also a great source of attraction. |
